The 5.3% offcut is counted, not a rule of thumb. Every room is set out plank by plank, with the offcut from one row starting the next where it is long enough.

The plans

Every room drawn to its interior wall faces, from the written dimensions on the 2003 sheets and checked with a laser on site. Shaded rooms are out of scope — wet areas and the stairs.

The boards

Three candidates, all luxury vinyl plank, all 0.5 mm wear layer. They differ on thickness, pack size and acoustic backing. Backing matters here: the upper storey sits over living space.

Install method is not settled. Floating needs an underlay over the slab and wastes more than glue-down, since a click-lock edge has to stay intact. Happy to take a recommendation.
